What really is notarization?

Notarization is the official fraud-deterrence process that assures the parties of a transaction that a document is authentic, and can be trusted. It is a three-part process, performed by a Notary Public, that includes of vetting, certifying and record-keeping. Above all, notarization is the assurance by a duly appointed and impartial Notary Public that a document is authentic, that its signature is genuine, and that its signer acted in freewill in the document. A Notary Public’s seal indicates on a document indicates it has been notarized. It’s essential that everyone trusts the authenticity of the documents, hence notary is done.

Who is a Notary Public?

In most countries, a Notary Public is known as an official who is licensed by the government to perform functions such as the authentication of signatures or documents, and the witnessing of affidavits or statements of persons under oath.

Do certificates need notarization?

If you are applying for jobs abroad, and the Ministry of External Affairs or the Ministry of Labour of that country asks to verify your certificate to be true or not, that’s the time notarization is required. In your own country authenticity of your certificates can be given by the certificate issuer (like ACT) in form of online verification or a letter to the School / Institution you applied to, can be issued verifying your details, certification and performance / grades.

What is Apostille?

In order to make a document from one country to be legally recognised in another country, the document will usually need to be legalised in some way. This will usually involve some form of certification from the country the document originates that is recognisable in the country the document will be used in. The apostille, is a widely recognised means to achieve this. Quite simply, the apostille is a form of certification issued in one country that is recognised in any other country that is also part of the Apostille Convention.
