The OTHM Level 5 Certificate in Teaching Learners with Special Educational Needs and
Disabilities is designed for learners to learn the essential skills required to support positive
learning outcomes and create inclusive environments for learners with special educational needs
and disabilities (SEND).
The qualification covers specialist action learning techniques including differentiated instruction,
multisensory learning approaches, and personalized learning plans, among others that can help to
enhance the ability of educators to deliver targeted and impactful instruction to learners with
SEND. The course also deals with the important aspect of managing behaviours within the
learning environment. Trainees learn to identify and address both positive as well as disruptive
behaviours, fostering a conducive learning environment that promotes engagement and
participation among learners with SEN & Disabilities, thereby contributing to their overall
educational success and well-being.
The OTHM Level 5 Certificate in Teaching Learners with Special Educational Needs and
Disabilities qualification consists of 3 mandatory units, 36 credits, 360 hours Total Qualification
Time (TQT).

To enrol in the OTHM Level 5 Certificate in Teaching Learners with Special Educational Needs

and above, may also be eligible for entry if they possess management experience.
Applicants must be at least 19 years old at the start of the course to be eligible for enrolment
along with possessing English language proficiency.

All learners must have access to 100 hours of teaching and there must be a minimum of eight observations of practice, totalling a minimum of eight hours.
Upon successfully completing the course, you will receive a certificate from OTHM Qualifications UK, which is regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation).

All units within this qualification undergo internal assessment by the center and external verification by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion-referenced, contingent upon the attainment of specified learning outcomes. To attain a 'pass' for a unit, learners must present evidence showcasing fulfillment of all learning outcomes and meeting standards outlined by assessment criteria. Assessment of learner success in meeting criteria is conducted by the Assessor, ensuring alignment with qualification standards.
Upon successfully completing the course, candidates will receive a certificate from OTHM
QualificationsUK, which is regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations
Regulation).
This certificate serves as recognition of your achievement and signifies that you have met the
standards set by OTHM for the respective qualification.
